This is the dev documentation for an unreleased version of MPF!
This is the documentation for MPF 0.56+, which is the “dev” (next) release of MPF that is a work-in-progress. Unless you’re specifically looking for this version, you probably want to use the version of documentation called “latest” which is for the latest released version of MPF. That documentation is at docs.missionpinball.org/en/latest.
MPF supports all the various pinball hardware mechanisms you’d expect. Some of these are basic (switches, LEDs, coils), and others are built up by combining multiple simpler mechs (Switch X plus Coil Y = Flipper 1, etc.)
Pinball mechs are mostly configured in machine-wide config files. Each one has a name, and there are configuration options for each which control exactly how it behaves (or how its behavior changes depending on what’s going on in your game).
Pinball Mechs in MPF include (but are not limited to):
- Autofire Coils
- Ball Devices
- Coils (Solenoids)
- Kickback Lanes
- Loops / Orbits / Ramps
- Plungers / Launch Devices
- Pop Bumpers
- Score Reels
- Scoops / Vertical Up Kickers (VUKs) / Saucer holes
- Stepper Motors
- Tilt Bob
- Troughs / Ball Drains
